Becent: The proposal for a "$2,000 tariff-funded dividend" requires Congressional approval
Jinse Finance reported that U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besant said on Sunday that President Donald Trump's proposal on November 10 to issue a $2,000 "dividend" funded by tariffs to American citizens would require Congressional approval. According to Bloomberg, Besant stated in an interview aired on Fox News on Sunday, "We need legislation," indicating that without a new bill passed by Congress, the administration cannot move forward with the related work. Besant also mentioned that he expects households to feel more economic pressure early next year. He pointed out that Trump's policy proposals include tax cuts and predicted that inflation would ease and real income growth would strengthen in the first half of 2026.
