• AXP Stock Price 24h change: -4.12%. From 375.61 USD to 360.12 USD (NYSE).
• The sharp decline was triggered by President Trump's proposal over the weekend to implement a 10% cap on credit card interest rates for one year, sparking a significant sell-off across the consumer finance sector.• From a technical perspective, AXP is testing key short-term support near $360 following a sharp gap down. While the long-term trend remains positive with the 200-day moving average providing support around $340, short-term indicators like the RSI (39) and MACD show growing bearish momentum and potential "non-confirmation" of recent highs.• American Express shares tumbled over 4% on January 12 after the U.S. administration floated the idea of capping credit card interest rates, leading to a downgrade from "Buy" to "Hold" by several analysts due to regulatory risk.• Financial markets are pricing in an estimated 4.5% price swing ahead of American Express's Q4 earnings report scheduled for January 30, 2026.• Citizens Financial Group and other institutional investors increased their stakes in AXP during Q3, though recent insider selling of approximately 57,000 shares has been noted in the last three months.• The S&P 500 Financials Sector became the biggest decliner on January 12, with peer stocks Synchrony Financial (-8.5%) and Capital One (-6.5%) also seeing major losses due to credit rate cap fears.• Fifth Third Bancorp and Comerica stockholders officially approved a merger expected to close in Q1 2026, signaling ongoing consolidation within the regional banking landscape.

• AXP Stock Price 24h change: -1.92%. From 382.98 USD to 375.61 USD. The decline was likely driven by broader market uncertainty and profit-taking following recent multi-year highs, despite positive sentiment around its premium card model.• From a technical perspective, the market presents a "bullish long-term trend with short-term consolidation": while the stock trades above its 200-day SMA ($320.32), it recently slipped below its 20-day SMA ($378.86), and the 14-day RSI of 51.22 indicates neutral momentum with a slight bearish tilt in the immediate term.• American Express recently enhanced its premium card offerings, doubling U.S. Platinum account acquisitions compared to pre-refresh levels, which has driven an 11% year-over-year revenue increase.• Institutional activity remains mixed; while the Oregon Public Employees Retirement Fund increased its stake by 29.9%, other firms like Hosking Partners have slightly trimmed their positions ahead of the January 30 earnings call.• Analysts at major firms like Wells Fargo and Barclays have recently raised their price targets to as high as $425, citing the company's successful targeting of Millennial and Gen Z demographics.• The banking sector is bracing for a heavy earnings week starting January 13, with major players like JPMorgan, Bank of America, and Goldman Sachs set to report, which is expected to dictate the near-term volatility for financial stocks.• U.S. inflation data (CPI) due on January 13 is causing investor caution across the financial services sector, as recent mixed economic signals have lowered the probability of an early interest rate cut.
