Web 1.0

The emergence of the internet's first version, referred to as Web 1.0, can be attributed to the Defense Advanced Projects Agency (DARPA) and was initially implemented in 1989. The term "Web 1.0" was not initially used to describe this early version of the internet and was introduced later in 1999 by Darcy DiNucci in an article that also introduced the term "Web 2.0".

Web 1.0 underwent significant transformations over the 10 years following its inception. Developers worked on server upgrades and increasing internet connection speeds to accommodate the growing number of users.

Web 1.0 was characterized by static web pages, slow loading times, web page elements positioned by frames and framesets, proprietary HTML tags, GIF buttons, HTML emailing forms, guestbooks, and other elements that are quite different from the modern web experience of Web 2.0.

In contrast, Web 2.0, the version of the web in use today, features dynamic and interactive web pages with improved aesthetics and user experience. Despite its limitations, Web 1.0 laid the groundwork for the development of the modern internet.

During its early stages, Web 1.0 was mainly a read-only web, with limited interactivity. It connected web pages through hyperlinks, often operating primarily offline.
