What is PayPal USD (PYUSD)?
PayPal USD (PYUSD) is a stablecoin introduced by the digital payment giant, PayPal, in collaboration with Paxos. Launched in August 2023, it is designed to bridge the gap between traditional fiat currencies and the digital world, offering a stable, secure, and efficient medium for digital transactions. As a stablecoin, PYUSD is pegged 1:1 to the U.S. dollar, meaning its value remains stable, mitigating the volatility associated with cryptocurrencies. It is fully backed by U.S. dollar deposits, short-term U.S. treasuries, and similar cash equivalents, ensuring users can redeem one PYUSD for one U.S. dollar at any time.
How PayPal USD (PYUSD) Works?
PayPal USD operates as an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum blockchain, allowing it to be compatible with a myriad of crypto exchanges, wallets, web3 apps, and other Ethereum-based applications. This compatibility enables PYUSD to be easily adopted by crypto exchanges and to power experiences within the PayPal ecosystem. PayPal USD serves as a bridge between traditional fiat landscapes and the digital realms, leveraging PayPal’s payments infrastructure.
Users can buy and sell PYUSD through the PayPal app or its official website, with one PYUSD equivalent to one USD. It can also be transferred to compatible crypto wallets, both PayPal Wallets and externally. Furthermore, PYUSD can be used to purchase and sell other cryptocurrencies supported by PayPal, such as Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ether, and Litecoin. The stablecoin will soon be available on Venmo, allowing users to pay fellow Venmo users in PYUSD.
How Many PayPal USD (PYUSD) Tokens Are in Circulation?
