Vitalik released an article reviewing the Ethereum 2023 roadmap update
On December 31st, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin published an article reviewing the updated roadmap for Ethereum in 2023 and stated that with the continuous consolidation of Ethereum's technical path, there have been relatively few changes, making it very similar to 2022.
Including:
1. The Merge: The role of Single Slot Finality (SSF) in the PoS improvement after the merge is being consolidated. It is becoming increasingly clear that SSF is the simplest way to address many weaknesses in Ethereum's PoS design.
2. The Surge: Significant progress has been made in both EIP-4844 and rollup itself. Cross-rollup standards and interoperability are also seen as areas that need long-term improvement.
3. The Scourge: After a certain degree of redesign, the current focus is on combating economic centralization in two key areas of PoS: (i) MEV, (ii) general equity pool issues.
4. The Verge: Significant progress has been made; Verkle trees are ready to be included.
5. The Purge: "State expiry" has been narrowed down to reflect a widespread consensus that it is a relatively low-priority and low-urgency project, especially considering stateless clients and PBS/execution tickets.
6. The Splurge: Due to cryptographic vulnerabilities in existing structures, VDF has been reduced temporarily to reflect decreased emphasis.
