Slow Fog Cosine: In a way, inscriptions are the testing ground for runes
SlowMist founder, Yu Xiang, stated that to some extent, Inscription can be considered as a testing ground for Rune. Various large files and numerous "meaningless" BRC-20 trace information from Inscription appeared in Bitcoin's Taproot data. After being assigned a CVE vulnerability number, it caused quite an uproar. However, Inscription brought about brutal aesthetics and was full of topicality. Meanwhile, Rune is based on the UTXO model with data stored in OP_RETURN (which has very limited space), making it more compact and minimalist. But due to its limited space, what it can do is also very limited - probably mainly used for issuing and circulating coins.
Therefore, to some degree, Inscription can be seen as a test platform for Rune; here "to some degree" primarily refers to BRC-20. What I see is that the current state of Rune aims at addressing this awkward form of BRC-20 in Inscriptions. Regardless of how popularity or controversy evolves doesn't matter much; at least anything promoting the development of the Bitcoin network is beneficial – if not so then time will provide choices.
