Ethereum's latest ACDE meeting: Plans to launch the next dedicated test network for Pectra upgrade within the coming week
Galaxy's Vice President of Research, Christine Kim, shared the main content of the latest phone meeting with Ethereum core developers (ACDE). The developers discussed their progress in implementing various code changes, including Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIP) 7251 and 7702, as well as Ethereum Object Format (EOF) and PeerDAS.
At the meeting, they first discussed Pectra Devnet 1. Their goal is to release a dedicated test network for Pectra within the next week. Major specification changes between previous test network Devnet 0 and upcoming ones include: adding validator merges triggered by EL; replacing EIP 3074 with EIP 7702. When client teams were sharing updates, one developer asked if EOF implementation would be excluded from Devnet 1. Beiko confirmed that EOF will not be tested on Devnet 1 and its implementation should be rebuilt based on the latest Pectra specifications rather than final Deneb specifications. Barnabas Busa, Developer Operations Engineer at Ethereum Foundation (EF), emphasized that due to ongoing changes and debugging in Pectra specs this strategy will make debugging EOF more difficult.
Regarding EIP 7702 update, although developers are implementing it on Devnet 1, this code change may still undergo significant revisions to support new features especially users' ability to revoke transaction authorization enabled by EIP-7702. The project team believes determining final design of EIP-7702 is an important issue and suggests further discussions among developers for consensus building. Regarding EOF update,Busa's team will test EOF implementation after making changes in Pectra code while EL client teams track preparation status of EOF on GitHub.Besu Reth have implemented all EOF-related EIPS while other teams are still under construction.Erigon team suggested adding more testing cases for transactions related to EOF.EF testing team is releasing more tests about it plans to share more information. EOF meetings will be held every two weeks as the specifications have been determined and focus has shifted towards testing and client implementation. In addition, PeerDAS development network is expected to go live in next one or two weeks based on Dencun specs rather than Pectra.
Tim Beiko also shared a proposal template for an EIP discussion thread, while EF Developer Operations Engineer Parithosh Jayanthi highlighted a new GitHub page called "eth-clients", which provides configurations for Ethereum mainnet and testnets.
Finally, Beiko reminded all teams that the next ACDE phone meeting will be held on July 4th during US holidays.
