Kamala Harris will not join Donald Trump at the Bitcoin 2024 conference in Nashville that starts today, ending hopes of a showdown on crypto policies between the two presidential rivals
The decision by the Democratic frontrunner for the 2024 presidential election not to speak at the event was confirmed by organizer David Bailey in a July 24 post on X.
He slammed her decision and said Harris had been “actively imprisoning developers, forcing our industry overseas, attacking PoW.”
A Missed Opportunity For Kamala Harris To Reset Relationship With Crypto Industry
Gemini co-founder Tyler Winklevoss said Harris is missing an opportunity for the Democratic party to reset its relationship with the crypto community.
Despite the Biden-Harris administration waging “all-out war on the crypto industry for 4 years,” the Vice President was still invited to Bitcoin 2024, Winklevoss said in a July 24 X post.
“What does she do? She declines,” he said.” She can’t even take the first step and show up to start mending fences. Our industry won’t forget this. We will show no mercy in November.”
Don’t Jump To Conclusions On Kamala Harris, Says Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse
Still, Ripple Labs CEO Brad Garlinghouse urged the industry to keep “an open mind for now” about Harris, and not to jump to conclusions about candidates “purely based on political affiliation.”
Such a mindset “is holding the crypto industry back,” he said.
“VP Harris is no stranger to Silicon Valley has an incredible opportunity to provide a reset on critical issues for US competitiveness (like crypto regulation),” he said. “I’ll keep an open mind for now.”
