South Africa was the first African country to license cryptocurrency exchanges.2021 The country explored a separate regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies in 2021 and plans to implement it by 2022, with the goal of having final regulations in place that year. According to a report by Statista, the South African cryptocurrency market is projected to reach revenues of $246.0 million in 2024, growing at a CAGR (compound annual growth rate from 2024-2028) of 7.86% to reach $332.9 million by 2028.
