Nym CEO Launches Ultra-Private VPN Based on Blockchain Technology to Protect User Data
Harry Halpin, CEO of Nym, has launched a new VPN called NymVPN that claims not to sell customer data. The VPN uses Blockchain technology to create "self-sustaining economics" and relies on a blockchain to coordinate the operation of its network. The VPN market is worth over $50bn, but VPNs are often private-in-name-only, according to industry leaders. Halpin's startup, Nym, recently launched its new VPN, NymVPN, which uses mix-nets to conceal a user's online activity and identity. However, the company must solve the challenge of creating a mix-net that performs at usable speeds, and its reliance on demand for its blockchain and higher prices for its token as its VPN's funding mechanism is risky.
