There is a New Development on Cryptocurrencies Allegedly Stolen by the US Government

There are some new developments regarding assets allegedly stolen from US government cryptocurrency wallets.

Yesterday, suspicious activity observed in one of the Bitfinex hacker wallets seized by the US became a hot topic in the cryptocurrency world.

Approximately $20 million worth of stablecoins were first sent to a previously unidentified wallet, which was then converted to Ethereum and transferred to an obscure crypto exchange.

There were speculations that the incident was a hack, and cryptocurrency detective ZachXBT also said that the transfers could have been malicious.

But interestingly enough, today a significant portion of the funds were returned to crypto wallets controlled by the US government. With $19.3 million reaching official wallets, it appeared that 88% of the funds had been recovered.

However, in the new transfers made minutes ago, the funds were this time transferred to a different cryptocurrency wallet, providing strong evidence that these could be internal transfers rather than a hack.

However, there is no official statement yet as to whether the transfers in question were stolen and returned after a hacking incident or whether they were transferred for another purpose.
