Evolving from ‘Common’ to ‘Secret Rare’: VeVe Unveils New Collecting Model ‘Evolvables’
The new collecting model will allow collectors to shape their items' rarity by evolving them over time through the burning process.

VeVe has announced a new collecting model with the launch of Evolvables.
VeVe is an app-based marketplace for licensed digital collectibles. It has sold more than 10 million digital collectibles and comics from massive brands like Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars.
According to the press release, the new collecting model will launch on November 30. It will allow collectors to evolve their collectibles over time.
Notably, with each step in the evolution process, the collector increases the item’s rarity.
How this model works is that collectors are free to buy multiple editions of a collectible and burn them as part of an upgrade process.
This means that these editions will be permanently removed from circulation.
“In a process that includes burning (deleting previous editions), collectors can watch their pieces grow and change over time,” the team said.
Through this process, the original versions become increasingly scarce. At the same time, the evolved collectibles “take on unique characteristics that reflect the efforts of their owners,” the announcement claims.
Ben Rose, VeVe’s co-CEO, stated that “the Evolvables model redefines what we previously thought possible of rarity by giving collectors the power to actively influence the scarcity and uniqueness of their items.”
Moreover, there are five rarity tiers, the lowest being ‘Common’ and the highest being “the elusive Secret Rare edition.”
Moving Away From Permanence
The team stated that Evolvables is the “first of its kind.”
They suggested that it’s brining major change in the collectible’s industry by doing away with the permanence of the experience.
Once acquired, the item typically remains the same, while it’s the external factors that determine its rarity.
On the other hand, Evolvables enable collectors to “actively participate in the transformation” of the digital items they buy. They get to determine the rarity of their items.
This move allows for “a new layer of engagement” where the experience continues beyond the point of purchase.
“This innovation is one of the many ways VeVe is transforming how collectors interact with, enjoy, and enhance their collections in the digital space,” said Rose. “We wanted to provide an opportunity for collectors to grow their collections and take control of their collecting journey.”
Dan Crothers, VeVe Co-Founder, added that this new opportunity to shape collectibles is available to collectors globally.
“A key part of our vision was making sure this experience remains accessible, with an affordable entry cost that ensures rare items aren’t just for those with the financial means. Expanding this accessibility for fans is a priority,” Crothers stated.
Besides selling over 10 million digital collectibles, VeVe said it recorded more than four million app downloads and over 200 partnerships with some of the world’s massive brands, such as Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, DC, Coca-Cola, and others.
