According to Cryptonews, a new report from the Scottish Police shows that since 2019, crimes related to cryptocurrency have increased by an astonishing 2,000%. The 2025 annual report submitted to the Scottish Police Authority (SPA) Performance Committee outlines the increasingly severe challenges faced by law enforcement in combating cybercrime and fraud (especially those involving cryptocurrencies).

Authorities emphasize that despite significant progress in digital forensics and tracking technology, Scotland still lacks a dedicated cryptocurrency crime department. Plans are currently underway to address this deficiency by establishing a Cyber and Fraud Command Department aimed at consolidating Scotland's methods of investigating and prosecuting digital crimes. Despite these advancements, the rapid development of cybercrime still poses a huge threat requiring further investment in law enforcement capabilities.
