Consensys: A Small Number of MetaMask Users Report Excessive Disk Activity, Fix in Progress
Odaily Planet Daily reported that Consensys, the developer of MetaMask, has confirmed it will urgently fix an issue where the browser extension was abnormally writing data to hard drives. Multiple users reported that the plugin continuously wrote data in the background, reaching up to 5MB per second, resulting in daily SSD (solid-state drive) writes of up to 500GB. The issue dates back as early as May 9, when user "Quanquan" reported that an unused MetaMask plugin wrote 100GB of data in a single day. A Consensys spokesperson acknowledged the presence of "abnormally high disk activity," mainly affecting users with excessively large state data, and promised to address the problem by reducing write frequency and optimizing data fetching strategies.
