Hackers use Anthropic AI tool to launch ransomware attacks
artificial intelligence company Anthropic stated that hackers used Anthropic's technology to carry out a large-scale cybercrime operation that affected at least 17 organizations. This is an unprecedented case of attackers weaponizing commercial AI tools on a large scale. According to the Anthropic report, the hacker used Anthropic's proxy coding tool Claude Code to launch data theft and ransom attacks on government, healthcare, emergency services, and religious institutions in the past month. This led to the leakage of medical data, financial information, and other sensitive records, with ransom demands ranging from $75,000 to $500,000, payable in cryptocurrency.
