Ethereum About to Explode? Whale Sells $5 Billion in BTC and Buys ETH
- Whale sells Bitcoin and buys over 42 ETH
- $5 billion in BTC exchanged for Ethereum
- Ethereum attracts mega-investors and could appreciate in value
A billion-dollar move has reignited optimism about Ethereum. A whale with $5 billion in Bitcoin gradually exchanged 2.000 BTC for more than 42.750 ETH using the Hyperliquid platform. The transaction was tracked by Arkham Intelligence, which linked the address to the same investor who moved $800 million on August 24th.
The final address, "eCb43," initially received 1.000 BTC, worth approximately $108 million, split into two transactions. It then began selling small batches—between 1 and 1,5 BTC at a time—in exchange for Ethereum. After exhausting this first batch, the whale sent another 1.000 BTC and repeated the process.
At the end of the transaction, all ETH funds were withdrawn from the wallet, totaling over 42.750 Ethereum units. This massive movement occurs at a time when ETH is experiencing strong institutional interest.
Arkham commented on X:
"A whale with over $5 billion in BTC is buying ETH. He just transferred $1,1 billion in BTC to a new wallet and started buying ETH through Hyperunit/HL."
According to the company, the same investor has reportedly acquired around US$2,5 billion worth of ETH in the last week alone, suggesting an aggressive accumulation strategy.

This wasn't an isolated incident. A few days ago, another Bitcoin whale exchanged part of its stash for $75 million leveraged in long Ethereum positions.
Meanwhile, another veteran address made the largest ever movement of inactive BTC, transferring over $8 billion. The same investor then sold over 80.000 BTC acquired during the Satoshi era through Galaxy Digital.
On Friday, both Bitcoin and Ethereum were down about 4%, trading at $108.196 and $4.318, respectively.
