According to Fortune, Elon Musk’s Boring Company has paused its tunnel construction to the Las Vegas airport after an employee suffered a “crushing injury” late Wednesday night. Nevada’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has launched a probe into the incident.
At 10:12 p.m. local time on Wednesday, the Clark County Fire Department was called and sent a team of 18 rescuers to the scene. The specifics of the worker’s accident remain unclear, but local firefighters used an on-site crane to lift the injured person from the construction area. The fire department informed Fortune that the worker’s condition is “stable.”
In recent years, the Boring Company has been tunneling beneath Las Vegas, linking the Convention Center with several nearby hotel casinos. The underground network has transported passengers over 3 million times along its 3.5-mile route. The company ultimately plans to expand its tunnels throughout Las Vegas, including a connection to the airport.
However, many workers have suffered injuries while building these tunnels, and even the project’s former safety manager has openly expressed worries about the hazards present at these sites.
