During Meta Connect 2025 on Wednesday, the company introduced its latest Oakley Meta Vanguard smart glasses, designed specifically for runners, cyclists, and other sports enthusiasts. Priced at $499, the glasses will be available starting October 21.

Meta Connect stands as the social media giant’s premier annual event, where it presents its newest smart glasses and VR devices.

This model sports a single, expansive front lens rather than the two-camera setup found at the top corners of older Meta glasses and the Oakley Meta HSTN. It records video in up to 3K resolution and includes a 12-megapixel camera with a wide 122-degree field of view.

The Oakley Meta Vanguard smart glasses offer a customizable button for launching personalized AI prompts, which users can configure via the Meta AI app. According to Meta, all buttons are placed underneath the frames to allow athletes to comfortably wear helmets while using the device.

These glasses can operate for up to nine hours on a single charge, or up to six hours when continuously playing music. Included is a charging case that delivers up to 36 extra hours of battery life. Meta also highlights that the glasses can reach 50% charge in just 20 minutes inside the case.

Meta claims the open-ear speakers are the most powerful yet in any of its glasses, delivering six decibels more volume than the Oakley Meta HSTN. The glasses are equipped with five microphones designed to reduce wind interference during calls, voice commands, or when using Meta AI.

With an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, these glasses are built to withstand intense physical activity—the highest rating of any Meta eyewear, according to the company. The wraparound frame uses Oakley’s PRIZMTM Lens technology to help shield the wearer from sunlight, wind, and dust.

Staying true to their athletic focus, the glasses can link with Garmin smartwatches. Wearers can request real-time metrics like heart rate and speed while running, cycling, or engaging in other workouts. Additionally, Strava integration lets users overlay performance data onto photos and videos captured with the Oakley Meta Vanguard, which can be shared with their Strava network.

Customers can choose from four frame and lens combinations: Oakley Meta Vanguard Black with PRIZMTM 24K, Oakley Meta Vanguard White with PRIZMTM Black, Oakley Meta Vanguard Black with PRIZMTM Road, and Oakley Meta Vanguard White with PRIZMTM Sapphire.

The Oakley Meta Vanguard glasses will launch in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Australia, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. Meta also plans to bring the glasses to markets in Mexico, India, Brazil, and the United Arab Emirates later this year.

This announcement comes three months after Meta introduced the Oakley Meta HSTN smart glasses, which the company described as its “first product tailored for athletes and fans alike.”

On Wednesday, Meta also revealed a new line of Ray-Ban smart glasses with integrated displays for apps, navigation, and photo viewing, plus a wearable wristband for control. The company additionally announced the Ray-Ban Meta 2, which offers up to double the battery life of its predecessor and can record 3K Ultra HD video.
