Trump tries to calm markets after tariff threat and says: "Don't worry about China, everything will be fine"

US President Donald Trump said on Sunday (12) that “there is no reason to worry" in relation to China, after days of tension sparked by his statements about new trade tariffs. In a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump wrote "Don't worry about China, everything will be fine.!”, suggesting that negotiations between Washington and Beijing may still find a diplomatic way out.
The message came just hours after the U.S. government signaled it could impose tariffs of up to 100% on several Chinese products, a move that heightened nervousness in global markets. Investors initially reacted with a sharp drop, but Trump's more conciliatory tone brought momentary relief to U.S. and European stock markets.
According to analysts, the president's post was interpreted as an attempt to curb investor pessimism and demonstrate a willingness to engage in dialogue. In another excerpt, Trump commented that Chinese President Xi Jinping "had a difficult time” and that both “do not want an economic depression.” He added: “The United States wants to help China, not hurt it!!!”, reinforcing that the White House's intention is not to weaken the Asian country.
Meanwhile, the Chinese government responded cautiously but firmly. Beijing's Ministry of Commerce stated that “China does not seek a trade war, but it does not fear one” and promised to adopt “corresponding measures” if Washington goes ahead with the announced tariffs.
Economists say the new threats could directly affect global supply chains and increase inflation in both countries, especially in sectors like technology and manufacturing. Even so, Trump's speech was enough to halt the stock market's downward spiral, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq indexes registering a slight recovery at the close of trading.
The phrase "Don't worry about China, everything will be fine.” quickly became a trending topic on social media, symbolizing Trump’s attempt to adopt a more diplomatic tone amid growing international pressure.
