Pi Network invests in OpenMind to create decentralized robots.
- Pi Network makes first strategic investment in robotics and AI.
- OpenMind develops OM1 and FABRIC protocol for autonomous robots.
- Over 350.000 Pi nodes tested decentralized AI network.
Pi Network Ventures, the investment arm of Pi Network, announced Its first strategic investment is in OpenMind, a company that develops a decentralized operating system for robots. The investment aims to unite Pi Network's global ecosystem with OpenMind's artificial intelligence and robotics infrastructure, creating a shared economic structure between humans and machines.
OpenMind is building OM1, a hardware-independent operating system that allows robots to perceive, reason, and act in a unified way across multiple platforms. In parallel, the company is developing FABRIC, a protocol that ensures secure identity verification and coordination between robots in both physical and digital environments, enabling machines to collaborate autonomously and in a decentralized manner.
According to Boyuan Chen, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of OpenMind,
“Our mission has always been to create open infrastructure for intelligence that exists in the real world, not just in the cloud. Working with Pi Network helps us extend this idea to both robotics and decentralized computing.”
Prior to this investment, OpenMind had completed a $20 million funding round, led by Pantera Capital, with participation from Coinbase Ventures, Ribbit, Topology, and Pebblebed. This new partnership with Pi Network represents an important step forward in advancing solutions that combine artificial intelligence, blockchain, and computational decentralization.
As part of the joint project, the two companies conducted a proof-of-concept experiment, using over 350.000 active Pi Network nodes to process real-world AI workloads. These nodes provided idle computing power for image recognition models developed by OpenMind, demonstrating that the decentralized Pi network can operate as a global AI cluster.
The results showed that node operators can earn Pi by contributing their computational capacity, reinforcing the network's potential to support distributed AI training and inference without relying on centralized cloud providers.
Following the success of the pilot project, OpenMind intends to expand the development of OM1 and FABRIC, enhance experimental programs, and integrate new technology partners throughout 2025, strengthening the link between robotics, decentralization, and cryptocurrencies.
