The U.S. Department of Justice establishes a "Fraud Strike Team" to combat Southeast Asian cryptocurrency fraud.
ChainCatcher news, according to Golden Ten Data, the U.S. Department of Justice has announced the establishment of a new "Fraud Center Strike Force" aimed at combating the surge of cryptocurrency investment fraud initiated by transnational criminal organizations operating in Southeast Asia. The department stated that this interagency task force will investigate, disrupt, and prosecute the most egregious fraud schemes, which are estimated to defraud Americans of nearly $10 billions annually. Criminal networks operate these schemes from camps in Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar, with fraudulent proceeds in some regions possibly accounting for nearly half of the local GDP.
