Democratic Representative Waters criticizes SEC Chairman Atkins for halting cryptocurrency enforcement actions and calls for a hearing
According to TechFlow, on December 30, CoinDesk reported that Maxine Waters, the senior Democratic member of the House Financial Services Committee, sent a letter to the committee's Republican Chairman French Hill on Monday, requesting SEC Chairman Paul Atkins to attend a hearing regarding the termination of major enforcement actions against certain exchanges and crypto companies such as Justin Sun. Waters questioned the reasons for the SEC dropping these cases and how market fraud would be prevented, pointing out that some companies announced the termination before the committee's official vote. She also criticized Atkins for using the SEC agenda as a government tool and implementing policy changes through staff statements rather than formal rulemaking.
