What is Nym (NYM)?
Nym is a privacy-focused blockchain platform that allows users to protect their online identity and activities. It integrates several privacy technologies, including a mixnet, Coconut signature scheme, Sphinx packet transmission, and the Nyx blockchain. The blockchain was created in 2018 by Harry Halpin and George Danezis.
The project works with a number of high-profile institutions such as the European Commission, Andreessen Horowitz, Binance Labs, etc.
How Nym (NYM) Works
When you use Nym, your online traffic is first encrypted and then sent through a series of servers that are part of the mixnet architecture. Each server in the mixnet only knows the previous and next servers in the chain, making it nearly impossible to trace your online activities back to you.
The platform uses a unique mix of encryption and blockchain technology to ensure that your online activities remain private and secure as follows:
- The mixnet encrypts and mixes Sphinx packet traffic to ensure network-level privacy.
- Coconut signature scheme provides anonymous access control by shifting the paradigm of resource access control from identity-based to privacy-preserving.
- Sphinx packet transmission sends armored, layer-encrypted information packets that are indistinguishable from each other.
- The Nyx blockchain is a general-purpose CosmWasm-enabled smart contract platform that keeps track of the mixnet and provides privacy-enhanced credentials.
NYM token is necessary for running nodes in the Nym platform.
How Many Nym (NYM) Tokens Are in Circulation?
There are 1,000,000,000 NYM tokens in total supply. 391,889,460 NYM tokens are in circulation at the time of writing.
